Prepare your website for SEO!:>
Generally about Seo February 16th, 2007Most of the people thinks that website optimization and the fight for the first places in google is some MAMBO JAMBO that only few people know how to do;> It’s not true. In this post I will try to guide you how to prepare your site for google and other search engines.
START.
1. <title></title>
It is very important to create good TITLE. Good TITLE will not only increase your rankings but it’s also the main part readed by people before entering the web. The TITLE should contain our keywords ( at the beginning is the best). It should also be understandable for the person that reads it.
2. <meta name=”description” content=”description of your website” />
One of the few meta tags that still counts in the search engine world. It should contain well build description of your website with the use of keywords in it. Mostly search engines shows description under the title so it can also encourage to visit your website.
3. <meta name=”keywords” content=”keyword1, keyword2, keyword3″ />
At this time I don’t think it’s used by any of the search engines. But it’s quite important not to forget about it. Why? Couse keywords meta tag is identified by search engines as plain text on the webpage. Also remember not to multiply keywords several times in the keyword meta tag.
4. <h1>, <h2>, <h3>, <h4>, <h5>, <h6>
Heading tags. Numbers define font size and number 1 is the largetst one. Why should you use heading tags? Imagine newspaper with bold big headings that shows you the beginning of each article. First of all it’s easier to find something on the website with headings. Secondly it is treated better by the search engines and keywords in heading tags are stronger than outside headings.
5. <strong>, <em>, <small>
Those tags are used to show that some parts of the text are more or less important than other. If you want to read more about building sites with new standards and how to do it properly please visit our u2tech forum.
6. <img src=”picture.png” alt=”picture description” />
Pictures on your website should have alt descriptions. You should also use keywords inside alt text. Why also you should use alt text with pictures? Couse browsers for blind persons are using those to describe what was shown on the picture.
7. Website content.
While creating website content you have to rememeber to use keywords inside the text. Guidelines say that it is good situtation when keywords are no more than 5 - 9% of the website content.
8. <a href=”http://www.my_website.com” title=”keywords”>Keywords</a>
This is the most important part of your site preparation. Those keywords are most valuable for SEO.
9. Link structure.
Each subpage that you create should be available for visitor after 2 click from your homepage maximum. Googlebots and other bots are jumping from one link to another so they need to find all of your pages easily.
10. Sitemap.
This is one of the subpages. You put there the whole link structure of your website. While creating sitemap do not forget to use keywords in the link text also. Usually people put links to sitemaps in the footer of their websites.
Ok. That’s mostly it!:)
Thanks.
